Show Additional Truths. Wesley K. Walton Is said to bo a candidate for president of the senate. It Is also said that S. II. Love will not seek the position again, but will use his Influence In favor of his friend George N. Lawrence, this is in pursuance pursu-ance of an understanding alleged to have been entered into two years ago Jj when Lawrence supported Love for the homy. In the meantime, Harry ' Joseph Is still in the lead for speaker of tlio house. John Q. Critchlow's friends are urging him strongly for I the position and ho has good support. C. E. Marks also has friends working in his interest. The "Amorlkearns" club and the party generally, is very much exercised exer-cised In the .matter of the probability of the next legislature enacting a law to remove the police and Are departments depart-ments from municipal control and politics and placing them under the direction of a nonpartisan commission. They fear they cannot prevent legls- W latlon of that kind, but Joe Llppman and other wiseacres are planning to avert the proposed new law, going into effect until after the next city election, by contesting Its constitutionality in the courts. It Is doubtful If their plans would succeed however, as In a case of this kind the state supreme court would" probably take original jurisdiction jurisdic-tion and pass on the case in a very short time. If the "Amerlkearns" party par-ty should lose the police and fire departments de-partments as political adjuncts, it would be a severe blow to the party. They may be depended upon to use all their efforts to avert such a calamity calam-ity to them. There may be some changes in appointive ap-pointive county offlcers when the new board of county commissioners comes into power. There are several applicants appli-cants for the superintendency of the county infirmary. If there is any change in that position, now held by James Sabine, Jr., it is said Joe Cottle Cot-tle will stand a good chance for the appointment. |
