Dear Sir: In an arllclo from lx)gan In your valunblo paper, by "a true friend of tho people," tho nail was hit square on tho head and driven homo. Tho local press was considerably worked up, especially by tho accusation accusa-tion of being subsidized. It may not bo truo In a direct way. but In an indirect in-direct way tho writer of tho nrticlo is strictly correct. Tho acrobatic performances, and most astounding Bommorsaults over witnessed In any tented circus was performed by ono of our local papers upon tho electric light question of this city, which naturally would load any person having tho welfare of tho city at heart, to at' least surmise that so far as that ono paper was concerned, con-cerned, there must bo a darkey in tho woodpile. Another paper published hero, has always advocated tho plan proposed by tho rich knockers. It Is a question whether or not It really could exist IT it did not sympathize with them. It is a mombor of that family. In times pnst it has been treated by them as tho proglcal sqn was by his father, and wo aro inclined to bolievo that thoy do not again wish to monkey with tho buzz-saw for foiir thoy will havo to cat husks with tho gruntors. . Botli papers ask why did not this writor express his thoughts in tho local press? Why did ho send to a magazine mag-azine in Salt Lako that has a limited circulation hero? Tho reason is simply this. "Truth" Is Tearless ; it stands up Tor the peoplo's rights upon nny and all occasions. It is road by many more peoplo than our local press has any Idea of. Articles appearing in Truth are often copied in all the pa- i pors published hero, and road by the people, whereas if an articlo is sent to ono of our local papers, It is only read by part" of tho people. Tho city council stands pat for tho interest of tho peoplo. Thoy havo decided de-cided to levy a six-mill tax for electric light purposes this year, a reduction in tho prlco of light to meet the competition com-petition of tho Tellurldo company, to install a now unit, etc. So that regardless re-gardless of a powerful oposltlon, tho people seem' to bo gaining ground. So mote It be. Respectfully, JQNE OP THE COMMON PEOPLE. Lognn, May 9th, 1905. n TYPOS LEAVE FEDERATION. Because it believed thero is an Intention Inten-tion to use tho Federated Trades as a political party, transform, it. into tho Socialist' organization, tho Typographical Typograph-ical Union of this city has withdrawn Its delegates from tho Federated Trades, and In future will "go it alone." Although this action was decided upon last Sunday, tho dally papers havo not yet discovered it, nor will thoy until they sco Truth. Then they will slug head it and use it as a choico bit of Intelligence. In-telligence. Tho debate over tho proposition was not bitter by any means, but tho printers seem to bo determined de-termined that their union should not bo Involved in any political schemes. The voto was a decisive ono. It is learned that tho Federated Trades aro somewhat disgruntled over tho matter, but that condition of affairs af-fairs will not annoy tho Typographical union at all, as iii times past it has demonstrated an ability to t'ako care of itself. It is ono of tho labor organizations organ-izations that has tho faculty or doing things without violence and so far a?, can bo remembered, never has been tho causo of tho authorities asking Tor rcdoral troops.
