Mrs. Welling told me they keep 200 females, that they have had a good year this year with the price-wisto top pelts selling from $18 $20 per pelt. I was interested to learn that West Germany strengthened our mink market by purchasing a considerable amount of these pelts, since has improved. their economy Mrs. Welling stated that the desaphire mink is most in mand this year. This is a light blue colored mink. These folks have been in the mink business for six years. They belong to the Fur Breeders Agricultural Utah, Cooperative at Midvale, who furnishes them their feed advise on and also technical disease and market information. This is a very complicated business. The mink have about 4 kits per year. They keep 1 male for each four females. Pelts are taken the 1st part of December. Some of the mink growers located in this area are: M. W. Welling, Fielding, one of the 1st growers, Milton Bywater, Milton Hodges, FieldPlymouth, ing, James Estep, Elwood and A. C. Christensen, James A. Little of Thatcher. Mrs. Welling feels it would help their mink business if they had more producers in Box Elder County as now they are only getting delivery of feed every other day. If there were more producers they could get daily delivery which would be much better. IT'S NOT TOO LATE It's these kind of mornings that make me wish I had covered my rose bushes with straw. This is on a cost accounting basis where each enterprise is accounted for separately and it shows the amount of profit or loss that it supplies to the farm. This is important in this specialized farming era that we are now in. If you are interested in this type of farm accounting, contact your County Agent for details on cost and other particulars.
