I'ven before the council has had a chance to get much done, we'd like to compliment tlie Tremonton llan-nin- g Hoard and City Council for their selection of council members. With their work, Tremonton should be well represented when our nation's 200th birthday rolls around in 1970. 'Hi!-- ' MONTON LETTERS TO THE Successor I'ditor: Congratulations to Arthur Redding for winning the election for sheriff impressively. In the transferring to the new jail and taking over, I will cooperate 100 percent for the next four years. Respectfully yours. Warren W. Hyde, sheriff Dogs Need Home Kditor, On Saturday, November 4th, the opening day of the pheasant season, while Iwas patrol ing in western Box I noticed a Labrador dog run across a road. Thinking that some pheasant hunter had lost her I tried to catch her and she ran down to a sage brush where she had eight little pups a few days old. The wind was blowing about 50 MPH, exceptionally cold, and the dog was so thin and hungry. I got into my emergency kit and got out a can of tuna fish and fed the dog, loaded her and the eight pups into the truck and brought them home. The Box Elder County Humane Society is doing all they can to place these pups or find a horn? for them but without success. Iam pleading to you, the public, that if you know of a good home for one of these pups or the mother dog, please let me County know. They are doing real well I 5 yl 2 ted I At Stanford Lhiversity in California, for instance, a study showed that the average grade point wasn't a C at all, like everybody's been thinking for years. The average grade point was a B plus. Seems average Isn't average anymore. Star-Gaz- Proposed Routes ty SST er EDITOR Klder black Congratulates HKSIDKS Sugar prices have increased sharply during the past year, tor a number ot reasons, mostly related to supply and demand, and we thought you d be interested in them. 1 Worldwide sugar consumption has exceeded total production during the several past years, but average annual con sumption in the United States has remained relatively constant for many years at approx imately 100 pounds per person. Many underdeveloped nations that previously consumed relatively little sugar now are raising their standards of living and consuming more sugar This increased worldwide competition for shrinking sugar stocks, plus global inflation, have pushed sugar prices to record high, 2 in 1974. Natural disasters such as drought, freezes, and hurricanes have affected sugar crops in many areas, further reducing already short supplies, and increasing sugar prices. 3 Production of beet sugar in the United States is down appreciably beans, potatoes, and some other crops, and many growers stopped growing sugarbeets this year. In U and growing areas, acreage this year was down 30 percent from last year. Since the major part of price increases goes to the growers, we hope many farmers will decide to grow sugarbeets in 1975. bringing production back up and helping the overall I supply. 4. Production costs of sugar and other foods have also increased: labor costs, fuel, packaging, etc.. have all increased sharply. 5 No sugar shortages in Utah. Despite the shortages of sugar in some parts of the world, the fact that we have a strong local beet sugar industry assures you of a continuing supply of sugar in U and I's home market areas. Sugar prices are high. We can't control the world sugar market, but we can offer our U and I sugar customers a special bonus when they buy U and I Sugar the only sugar grown and refined in Utah. home-produce- this year, due to the very low prices of sugar during the past few years.
