Neighbors discovered the flames about 5 a.m. and succeeded in saving most of the furnishings, as the fire started in the attic presumably from faulty wiring. The Dunns were away from home for the weekend, and had not returned at the time of the fire. The Tremonton fire department answered the call, but the entire roof was ablaze before the call was received. The house was owned by Horace Gardner.
