In fact, Isabel Echeverri, a pretty little Yankee girl from Colombia, South America didn't really want to go home, at least not for awhile. In the short space of two months the senior high school student learned to love the peace and quiet of Bothwell and the bustling &rvi tev a hit Wj - 7V, limes. Among many other things the South American exchange student has learned to love about the local scene is snow. She recalls seeing snow once in Colombia, that one time when her family made a trip to the high mountains. Colombia is a tropic country and coffee and bananas are principal crops. In the mountains, gold, silver and platinum are mined. The poise and confidence exuded by the pretty little dark-eyteenager is like a mirror to her past for back in her Colombia she has worked quite a bit as a fashion model. What the future holds for this Yankee from South America is anybody's guess. She hopes someday to return to America, thinks she will never give up her American citizenship, but admits it Hpnendfi a lot on whom she meets. It was mentioned a couple of paragraphs ago that Isabel is a "Yankee" from South America. That's right, for she was born in Boston. The older sister, Teresito, also has come back to her native land as an' exchange student Her assignment was to New York City. Comparing the schools here and In Colombia, Isabel thinks lfs "much easier here." She says there is no choice of subjects in Colombia, but instead quite a few more are taught. School there begins for most children at age four. The first three years are like our kindergarten. Next comes five years of primary-typ- e school, followed by six years of high school. Isabel notes that there are many private schools in her section of Colombia and the individual has complete choice of which school to attend. Public schools are for the less affluent pupils and even these schools, she thinks, are much tougher than schools "A MTV f i - ager, nave ooume oaten on several occasions. Two months ago on that cold first morning when she had awaken to find snow blanketing the farm lari scape, Isabel Echeverri was disappointed; disappointed in the fact that she'd been placed in a farming community and not in a large city like Salt Lake. And she wondered what she would do; so quiet, so few houses around, a completely different life for her. But Isabel quickly adjusted to her new life and her bubbling teenage ' ITS ed Isabel and Mom. The 'Americanization of Isabel' has been rather thorough, so thorough that she's become an avid fan of the Bear River basketball team, attending all the home games and some away from home. "Much more exciting," she says, "than basketball in Colombia." She had a date offer from a Box Elder student for last Friday's game between the two schools but turned him down, "Naturally!"
