Tremonlon, Uiai Thursday, December 19. 1957 Full Swing Bears To Test Davis Squad In Hoop Encounter Friday At Junior High The Student .r Council of Bear River Junior High has announced final plans for Christmas time activities. During the week the girls' 1 Victory-hungr- y Bear River hoopsters will be primed to dump a strong Davis high quintet when the two teams meet Friday at Bear River. The Davis squad, coached by Grant Cullimore, a former Bear great, boasts a rangy combination who show basketball Know-hoand speed to burn. Faculty members and the Dance committee have been asked to attend to assist the students. The dance is not open to the public and tickets will not be sold. Junior High School students and the parents who wish to attend will be admitted on presentation of the student body oard. Mark Baer is president of the student body, Sherrie Harris is and Peggy Palmer secretary. Advisers to the student council are Ervin Garfield and Robert Isaacson. School will close for the holidays at 3:30 p.m. Friday and class work will resume January if w out of class A tourney crown, will be back to spark the attack for the Cullimore gang. Railbirds report them as being strong on defense. Coach Durrell Hughes still searching for the best possible fivesome, will likely use D. Harris, and Puzey to gain needed height for close shooting. Feeding the ball to them and dunking shots from farther out will be C. Harris, Hughes, and Howell. Bound to see much action are Reid Pierson and Phil Harris, juniors. Promising sophomores may also get the nod for play. On December 23 the Bears meet Malad at Bear River in what fans claim will be a test of Idaho and Utah hoop strength. n December 27 will see the playing host to East High, a team to be watched in class A play. The Salt Lake Club has always given Bear River a full evening of competition, and the quintet to take the floor on December 27 is reputed to be a powerhouse. Both-wel- l, &8:00 o:oU JOSEPH FRANCIS PETERSEN DIES IN MALAD HOSPITAL Joseph Francis Petersen, 71, well known Pocatello Valley fanner, died Wedneslay, Pec. 18, 1957, in the Oneida Hospital in Malad, from a heart ailment. Mr. Petersen was born August 15, 1886, at Hyrum, the son of Lars and Christina Petersen. He married Hannah Spence in the Logan Temple, Nov. 25, P.M. SPECIAL PROGRAM AT HALFTIME 1908. Mr. Petersen was the father of ten children, nine of whom survive. Funeral services are pending arrangements by the family.
