Warden Asks for Fire Fighting Equipment At a meeting of the County Commissioners, Monday, June 18, District Fire Warden, J. D. Gunderson requested that a 10 man tool kit be purchased with Highway Patrol To Be Increased Additional openings for ten patrolmen is announced by the Utah Highway Patrol. Money has been made available for their employment. This came about as the result of findings of the San Francisco Safety conference which was held recently. The prompt action of Gover nor Lee and the other memoers of the Board of Examiners in releasing an additional $90,000 to the Utah Highway Patrol promises to be only the vansteps guard of other follow-u- p growing from the recent. San Francisco Traffic Safety Conference. Officers will be chosen from the following counties: Two men in Salt Lake county, and one in each of Box Elder, Davis, Summitt, Iron, Juab, Sevier, ' Wayne and Weber counties. Applications can be obtained at the office of the Executive Officer, 174 Social Hall Ave , Salt Lake City, 11, Utah, and must be returned before the closing date, June 29. The examination, which will be written multiple choice of 100 items, will test ability to follow written instructions and procedures, perform clerical tasks and the individual's knowledge of: Business English, business arithmetic, spelling, punctuation, alphabetical filing and word defini tions. The applicant must be at least 23 years of age but young er than 41, he must be a citizen of the United States and a resi dent of Utah at the time of application. He must have , a good background and be able to pass rigid physical requirements. The entrance salary is $300 per month and an additional $20 a month for uniform allowance. Policing Promontory Area Sheriff Warren Hyde and Attorney O. D. Lund met with the Commissioners in regard to law enforcement in Promontory Point. A man would have to be hired and trained and have a car. If a crime is committed in this area, the Sheriffs Department is responsible. It was also suggested that two men from the Morrison-KnudsoCompany be deputized and available to be called upon if needed. The Company was to be contacted to see if they would be willing to pay $300 monthly toward the salary of a man from the Sheriff's Department, and the Coun ty to pay the balance. This man would be for police service only. Asks Salary Boost County Officials met with the Commissioners ill regard to obtaining an increase in salary for deputies and extra help. The group suggested the Commissioners meet with deputies to discuss this matter following the next regular meeting. Robert Physicians County Preston and M. Reed Merrill and Jay Oldroyd and Steven Bunnell of the Welfare Department also brought up the matter of hospitalization for indigents. Finances for this care are extremely low. Evelyn Hansen, director of Home Arts at the Utah State Fair Association asked that a woman be appointed in the county to encourage women to display arts in the Fair. BOX ELDER'S FIRST DAIRY QUEEN Pea Han est Starts In Valley The harvesting of some 700 acres of peas in the Bear River Valley started this week It is expected that approximately 1400 tons of fresh, green peas will be processed at the Tremonton plant of the Hunt's Foods plant, during the next 21 days. Plant operations started on Monday of this week with 30 employees working. It is expected that a double shift will start next week as tht harvest increases. According to Howard Bron-soassistant manager, this year's crop appears to be much better than that of previous years. There will be about a thirty day lay off before the tomato run begins. She also taught in Hawaii for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mrs. Cates was honored by r the Association in the Bear River Ward chapel. A program was presented by students she had taught in .the past as well as the present. She was presented with a gift of luggage.
