Mortensen Social Events and Martin A lovely funeral service was conducted Friday afternoon in the Elwood Ward chapel for Mrs. Mary Iversen Mortensen, 88, who died Tuesday at her home in Elwood. Bishop Arthur Erickson conducted the funeral, and LaRue Munns played the prelude and postlude. Willis Peterson offered the invocation. A mixed chorus from Elwood with Virginia Petersen, May Cornwall, Mildred Saunders, Lottie Munns, Richard Harris, Carl Harris, Amos Hansen, and Keith Fridal sang, "I Have Read of a Beautiful City", as the first musical number. A vocal solo, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine", was sung later in the program by Marion Summers, and the chorus sang the closing song, "There is a Land". m Speakers were K. H. Fridal II, Eva Hansen, Wayne Smith and Bishop Erickson. The benediction was given by Parley Christensen. Burial was in the Bear River Cemetery by Rogers Mortuary. Dedication of the grave was by Amos Hansen. Primaryof Workers South Bear Tuesday evening the Jr. Gleaners presented a "This Is Your Life" program portraying the life of Grace Woodward. The girls then surprised Maxine Toombs by presenting her interesting life's story. Both honored ladies were presented with a box of candy. The program was under the direction of Speech Director, Maxine Toombs. The two Jr. Gleaner girls are LaVone Brown and Beverly Woodward. After the program, the Promontory Scouts gave a peanut bust to the entire Mutual. FINISHES TRAINING AS STEWARDESS Miss Gloria Gay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Gay, Tre- monton, has completed four weeks training in Kansas City with T.W.A. Airlines. She is taking up stewardess duties in Chicago and will fly from the east coast to the west coast. . Mother of Year Continued from front page teachers in the Relief Society when it was organized in the Sugar ward, and has continued in that work until the present time,' except when she worked in the presidency for seven years. She has spent many hours helping in the homes of the sick and assisted in preparing clothing for the dead. With her husband, they have done a great deal of temple and genealogical work. She has also been Social Service leader and stake secretary in the Relief Society. She took an active part in the Women's Encampment sponsored by the University of Idaho Extension Department for several successive years, assuming much responsibility, and for several years was an active worker in the Rexburg Civic League. She has also been active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, serving as captain of two different camps and as vice captain of the county camp two different times. She is still active in the Midland Camp in Tremonton. Accompanying her husband to business conventions, she has visited all of the larger cities in the western states, while he worked as banker, county official and reclamation worker. Their five sons are all active in their various communities. Frank, the eldest is manager of the Bank of America at Ventura, Calif.; Harmon is District manager of Prudential Life Insurance Co., at San Diego, Calif.; Walter is supervisor of the City Bits Lines in San Diego; Guy is one of the top drivers for. the same company, and a Captain in the Army Reserve Corps; and Kay is an agent for Prudential Life Insurance Co. in Idaho Falls, Idaho. All seven of the daughters have taught school during their lives and one is still a teacher while rearing five children. Alvaretta, mother of four, is active in church work, and as- sists her husband in the newspaper publishing business; Caddie is the mother of a large family, and an authority in eenea- logical work; Leota has five! children, has completed her college work while rearing them, holds important church jobs and holds a teaching position in Lewiston, Ida.; Ollie has five children, is a church and civic worker in Lebanon, Ore., also holds a part time job managing a knitting department for a large store. Naomi is rearing four children and works at a full time job in Henderson, Nev.; Rowena has two daughters, is a part time teacher and assistant to the Park officials at Big Sur, Calif.; and Phyllis holds an office job in Bell, Calif.
