They never will get some of them dug out. The towns that were built on side hills, just fell into the sea. One Island here just fell in to the ocean. Everything that was on it went too. There are big cracks in the of a earth about mile wide. They never will know how many people got killed. They're in such panic they're scattered all over the hills. We're trying to get food and water to all of them but its hard to find them. Once in a while you see some of them coming down with their dead babies. We don't have nearly enough milk for them. We're not worried too much about the dead ones We're just trying to save the ones that are still alive. We found one woman yesterday that was buried with rocks and stones. She was still alive. I guess she had been there for two or three days. Most of them think it's the end of the world. It certainly looked like it too. I don't know how much we're longer going to stay here. out of We're every thing. We just had beans for dinner. We still have searching parties out in the hills looking for people. One ship has lost 17 men. They went on a searching party three days ago and they're never heard from them yet. We only go over for about 8 hours at a time, then we have to report in. The Island where we are is about 30 miles long and 15 miles wide. They're trying to move most of them to the mainland but some of them won't leave. They've lost everything they had. I don't know how many million dollars worth of damage has been done. It must have been way up there. The Island still shakes pretty often but don't worry, I think most of it is over. I was glad I was in a position to help. I think we will be leaving pretty soon. We've done about all we can for them. You and Dad take care of yourselves, mother. I hope I'll be seeing you soon. Bye.
