Show School Board Slates Bond Election ay 4 A million dollar bond election to carry out much needed construction and Improvefor ments Tooele County Schools has been set for May 4th by the Tooele County School Board. THE BONDING will be carried out without any increase states. Under the . proposed plan there will be no increase to taxes and the bond will be paid out of anticipated tax revenue within the text 10 years. The Tooele County School District now has a million dollars on hand for a building pro gram but needs another million dollars so that needs of the District can be more fully met and federal hinds available can be gotten, Mr. Van ed. A NEW elementary school in the south-eas- t part of town will be built with con- struction expected to get under in May if die Bond is approved. A school bus maintenance garage will be built so that buses can be better kept at a safe standard. A central warehouse for the District will be built so that bulk buying can be done to save substantial amounts on school materials. e rooms NEW . will be built at both the Central and West Elementary Schools so that a more adequate physical education program can be carried out. A new high school will be built for Grantsville for six hundred students in grades 7, pay multi-purpos- to 12. Need for expansion to keep up with student population and extensive renovation of heating equipment as well as facilities at the present Grantsville High School would cost as much as of the cost of a new building and entirely new facilities, Superintendent Van Alfen reports. THE SCHOOL BOARD feels it is more economical in the long run, to build a new High School than to attempt to remodel and add onto the present building. Wendover will get a new school for 100 Junior High students to replace the secondary unit which is considered obsolete and inadequate. The new program which will be possible if the bonding pro- gram is approved will include extensive remodeling at St J ohn, Stockton and Vernon Schools as well. AN EXTENSIVE program o school ground improvements for all schools in the district is planned including the installation of new playground equip n ment, and fences, Mr. Van reports. If the million dollar bond is approved all of these projects are expected to be completed within the next 3 or 4 years. Without the bonding a wait for from 10 to IS years will be needed for their construction ' and completion. Under the proposed bonding mills program 4 and one-haout of the present 12 mills tax levy for buildings and equipment will be earmarked for debt retirement incurred in the million dollar bonding program. There will be no increase in the mill levy as a result of the bonding, School officials state. IT WILL NOT effect taxes already authorized, but will be paid for out of anticipated tax revenue over a ten year perithree-quarte- Al-fe- lf od. Preparation for the bond election was speeded up so that it could come under the current law because a technicality under the new bonding law passed by the last legislature will have to be tested in the Courts, experts have told the Tooele County School Board. The Board has been advised that it will be to the advantage of the District if the bond election is held under the present law. The legal notice announcing $7.
