Too Lethargic To Pen Letters We often meet citizens of Tooele in the course of our daily work who have definite and decided opinions ranging from politics to religion. The statement is often heard, Im going to write a letter to the paper about that, but in most cases the letter never reaches our office. Instead, the people who were so loud in their praise or condemnation of a given occurence, situation or problem seem to succumb to lazyness or lack of gumption when it comes to taking pen in hand. It Is the opinion of the editor that there are many responsible citizens who have valuable and worthwhile comments and criticism Its concerning our community, its culture, its morals, its churches, its government and Its educational system. Recently, a news story appeared in this paper which accused the citizens of Tooele of lethargy. A storm of protest resulted with Mrs. Myrtle Allsop acting as chief spokesman for the defense. Many of her argumenis were well taken, and she displayed commendable courage in stating her opinions. However, we note a real lack of concern among the citizens of Tooele in regards to the Americans traditional right of freedom of speech. We, as a community, are too prone to gripe orally but shirk to put these opinions and and in some cases duty our right Harry Medford, manager of Harrys Sinclair Service Station, arguments before others in the form of written words. buys several tickets from Wayne Saltzgiver, President of the There Is a question in our mind as to whether we have become Tooele Jaycees..The Jaycees are sponsoring a civic project of so flabby in our thinking, lethargic if you please, that we have no building rest rooms at the Babe Ruth Ball park.
