This reminder was directed to high school students who intend to submit essays in competition for national and state prizes, sponsored not only by the State, but by the Presidents Committee on Employment of the Physically Handicapped. Dr. Harmon said that prizes for winning the national contest range from $1,000 for first place to $100 for fifth place. And on the state basis, range from a University of Utah scholarship to a $50 savings bond with fifth place winner to receive $10 in cash In addition to cash, the national winner will receive a certificate signed by President Eisenhower, plaques for the school the contestant represents, and transportation, with all expenses paid, for a trip to Wash., D C. Locally, prizes are provided by the Utah Disabled American Veterans. Dr. Harmon said that Utahs entries have always been of excellent quality, and pointed out that in 1957, Sharon Garrett, of Judge Memorial high school, was a national winner.
