Show ' V The Tooele Transcript Help Return The Good Turn Friday, June 22, 1962 E 4. Residents of a area in and around Sait Lake City! are bemg asked this month to invest in the future. t12 investment is small 1 l,!'ount compared with the divi- s o be derived. The investment is a good one because it deals with our leaders of tomorrow. THE GREAT SALT LAKE Council, Boy Scouts of America, is n eriaking a major capital improvements program, For nearly a an century the Council, one of the most progressive in the na ion has helped boys from South Davis, Tooele, Summit and Salt hake Counties grow into mahood. Now the Council finds itself in a space and financial squeeze and is seeking $485,000 for a Service and Training Center at Fort Douglas and bumy needed improvements at various campsites in the northern portion of the state. Success, ui completion of the campaign will help scouts to help themselves. It is well known that Utah is a scouting seedbed and that the Great Salt Lake Council has obtained first class results with second class tools and facilities. Now scout leaders are moving to meet present and future needs and for the first time in history are calling for cash for a major building program. THE AMOUNT BEING sought is small in view of the 29,000 boys now eniollcd in Scouting in the ty area. It figures to a total of $17 per boy. By 1905 the Council expects to have 32,000 boys and by 1970 38,000. The Council is unuaual in that it reaches 67 per cent of the eligible boys. No large council in the county can boast such a figure. Scouting has served boys of all faiths and nationalities in the state since the program was started in 1913. Utah is recognized as a leader in the program. COMMUNITY AND CHURCH leaders endorse and support the fund drive. No one acquainted with scouting doubts the need. When scouters call upon you to return the good turn, remember, your gifts endure when you serve youth. . . . four-coun- ty ' i T, i fa d t t V 6 7 gt ni fir - i , four-coun- CALL IN RESERVATIONS BROKEN HOMES In a recent survey, 52 and one-haper cent of the freshmen entering the high schools of a city were from broken homes.
