Construction work is to be completed by early winter of SEEING WITH DEAN Jh wTSC As we have suspected and reported in this column before, Athletic Conference isnt interested in expansion immediately. They made this so definite in the June meetings af the Conference Presidents in Denver last week when they rejected a proposal by BYU President Wilkinson to admit Utah State University as the seventh member of the WAC. The vote was 2 with BYU and Utah the only two in favor of the move. But what must have been even more crushing to the Aggies hopes was the followup motion and identical 2 vote by the prexies NOT to admit any schools, nor to even consider expansion for at least two years. This is as we have reported in the past, that we felt the WAC would not be ready to consider expansion for at least two years after the league was formed, and possibly even longer. OUR SUSPICIONS WERE ENHANCED by the talk of Conference Commissioner Paul Brechler at the annual meetings of the league in Tempe, Arizona at the time of the Spring sport roundup when he said he would recommend no expansion in the league until the league had all the bugs worked out of .its code and operation procedures. In other words, no other member would have a chance to come into the WAC and make any decisions in basic operations policy. The six who formed the league would be the ones to establish its code. This means that anyone who does get into the WAC in the future must live by the code set up by the original six, both before entrance and after. We think the two year proposal is perhaps a little risky. There is already some talk up Logan way about looking to other fields. Teams on the West Coast such as University of schools like Texas Pacific and San Jose State, Southwest Western and New Mexico State along with Colorado State University and USU would make a formidable, albeit somewhat scattered league. When the WAC gets ready to expand, and expand they must, the top plums may have been picked off by someone else. THE NEW FOOTBALL GUIDE of the NCAA is out. And the outlook for the WAC conference and the surrounding area of independents is for more of the same as last year. The writer of the article on the region says the race will be even closer than last year if possible, and that means a real race. New Mexico is again given the nod as possibly the team to beat, primarily on the basis of last years championship. Arizona State again hasnt enough game sscheduled to qualify, although theyll be really tough. Wyoming and Brigham Young with possibly Arizona are given the best chance of upsetting the Lobos from the throne while Utah is picked to improve over last season. Gone is BYUs super-sta- r Fortie, but there are others in the league who are expected to pick up the national spotlight with hopes for another bona-fid- e Incidentally, Fortie is BYUs first bonafide and thus BYU becomes the NCAAs 117th college to earn a RITZ CRACKERS Nablsc0 -- i PUREX 5c 011 FRUIT DRINK LibbYs Assorted POTATO SALAD Wilsons FRUIT SALAD Wilsons I JULY 3, 5, 8 b pkg 1 79c 2 for 69c gallon 62c H cang 6 oz 1.00 per plcg 31c per pkg 35c lb 45 For Your Locker USDA Grade A Cut as you like Terms Can Be Made Large All Meat Sliced 45c lb 1963 The Board set a hunt for 15 moose permits.
