Show 4 - . .I' I .M...I.A...N. () G () S TIM K S December 1,2010 The Casual Critic by Daryl Austin t . ,: . t: V - irr nun f tr three join together to try and accomplish one incredibly im-portant goal: to find and destroy the remaining "pieces" of Ixrd Voldcmort's "soul" before he finds and destroys all that they love. I have to give major props to Director David Yates, (he's directed the last two Harry Pot-ter movies), and to Warner Bros, on their decision to divide this film into two parts. The story follows the book so dutifully, including the seemingly endless chapters of the trio's personal frustrations that occur while they're in hiding. Those scenes are slow and agitating (as they should be), but the film also captures endless scenes of im-portant significance with excite-ment and thrillabilily. I absolutely loved the act-ing, I recently watched the first two Harry Potter movies and it's amazing how far our young cast members have come. I also love David Yates at the helm. He directs with respect for both the fans of these beloved novels as w ell as for the fans of mov-ies in general, and the result is a stirring and passion-fiHe- d journey. I cannot wait to see the Part II conclusion of this last book, which is scheduled to be released July 15, 2011. Until then I'll just have to reread the book. Content: Rated PG-1- 3 for moderate fantasy violence, mild gore, mild language, scary tense scenes, murder, and one brief scene in which Ron sees a fake v ision that show s Harry and Hermione standing together and kissing. They can be seen from the side, from the waist up, and they both appear to be top-less; but the image is foggy so the scene feels far more like a dream than reality. Other Opinions: 18,787 "Average Joes" give "Harry-Potte-and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" a score of 8.3 out of 10 while 209 professional film crit-ics give it an average score of 79 percent out of 100 percent. Should you see it? Once again, if you're a fan of the Harry Potter franchise than of course you should! Even if (you're not though, the movie is still easy to follow and incred-ibly entertaining. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" is the best movie of the franchise yet, and the only regret it makes me feel for the rest of the Harry Potter films is this: why didn't they all get divided into two parts? Some of Hollywood's best actors including Alan Rickman (Die Hard), Billy Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean), Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient) and Helena Bonham Carter (Fight Club) join our. fearless threesome, Daniel Radcli ffe as Harry, Emma Watson as Hermione and Rupert Grint as Ron in creating one of the most fun casts in recent memory. Besides singing, the Chauntenettes also share their time with patients in the various care centers. by Geri Taylor For the past 65 years the Chauntenettes, a singing group based in Orem, have been enter-taining and delighting audiences with their wide range of musi-cal talent. The four-pa- rt wom-en's chorus averages around 50 members ranging in age from 20 to 85 and hail from Nephi to Salt Lake City with 12 members liv-ing in the Pleasant Grove area. The group presents three major concerts each year, a sacred fireside in March, the Spring concert in May and one in December. This year's Christ-mas performance will be held at the American Fork Tabernacle, 14 E Main St., on December 10 at 7 p.m. All performances are free of charge. With "Service Through Song" as their motto, the women have received great satisfaction by performing at care and assist-ed living centers, schools, club meetings and various civic and religious functions. Every other year they go on a summer tour, at their own expense, outside Utah. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday at the Piano Gal-lery in Orcm, but many hours are also spent memorizing mu sic and ly rics for their numerous performances. This past year the non-profit group was the recipient of a grant from the Orem Cultural Arts and Recreational Enrich-ment program (CARE), which has helped finance the purchase of music and costumes. Direc-tor Margaret Barfuss expressed her appreciation to the people of Orem for the CARE funds that have been a boon to the group and have "helped them breathe a little." Yearly dues and an an-nual fund raiser help offset the expenses. Newcomers are welcome and since there are no auditions, the only prerequisite is a love of singing. The best times to join are January and August when music for the upcoming concerts are introduced. This year's Christmas con-cert will feature old favorites as. well as newer pieces that are sure to bring a smile to every face. "Mistletoe," "Fruitcake" and "The Very Best Time of the Year" are just a few of the songs in this year's repertoire. Soloist Joyce Johnson will be featured in the timeless hymn, "Silent Night" and Dixie Spresser will translate "Our Gift to You" in sign language.
