Show THOMAS L STOCKS DIES OF injuries As a result of injuries sustained on nov 26 in a coal mine at columbia thomas L stocks of moab died at a hospital in salt lake city sunday he had made a valiant fight fr his life and until shortly before his death his condition was reported as improving he took a sudden change for the worse however and death came quickly sunday the body was brought to moab for interment funeral services being held yesterday after mr stocks was at work with a companion in the columbia mine when a coal car crashed into their compartment he sustained numerous injuries including several fractured ribs a compound fracture of a leg and some internal hurts he was removed at once to st marks hospital in salt lake although pneumonia developed his condition all along seemed favorable until a few minutes before he died his wife was with turn at the end A brother leonard stocks of moab who had been with him since his injury returned to moab sunday arriving here only a few hours before a message was received telling of his brothers sudden death mr stocks was bom and raised at moab he was the son of mary stocks of this place and Is survived by his mother his widow mrs grace stocks one daughter anna louise 10 one son leon 8 and the following brothers and sisters angus stocks dove creek colo will stocks moab george stocks salt lake city james leonard arch and edward stocks moab mrs mina bliss price mrs mary cummings tombstone ariz mrs louie francom Pran com payson mrs ann chamberlin salina mrs gallia branson mountain home idaho mrs kate lemmon mountain home idaho mrs ima irish moab and mrs lilly ames gateway colo mr stocks was born at moab nov 18 1896 and attended the local schools in june 1920 he married miss grace miller of la sal two children daeing bom to their union both of whom survive impressive funeral services for mr stocks were held yesterday from the L D S chapel As a mark of respect the mines at columbia were closed for the day and a large representation sen tation of columbia people motored to moab to attend the funeral about 20 cars of sorrowing friends numbering close to were here from columbia the services were also featured by a wonderful array of floral offerings the services were presided over by W D hammond of moab the opening number was a hymn by the choir though deepening trials followed by the invocation by mr of columbia 1 I know that my redeemer He deemer lives was sung by the choir thomas D harvey hendert of the columbia mines was the first speaker he stated that mr stocks had worked for him for about five years and had always been loyal and honest and a valued em aloye of his company J wilton addell bishop of columbia ward spoke of his personal friendship for mr stocks with whom he had worked the departed he said was a man ft honesty entirely without tulle he lived a clean honorable life and he was loved and respected by all who knew him mr and mrs allan werrett of columbia sang 1 I heed thee every hour as a duet W H mcconkle of the stake high lounell spoke words of comfort to the sorrowing relatives it was an inspiration and a pleasure he said to hear the kind words that had been spoken of the departed by his friends from columbia mr mcconkle spoke also of his long and favorable acquaintance with mr stocks bishop ham biond was the concluding speaker and owing to the lateness of the hour talked briefly he endorsed what had been said along scriptural lines by preceding speakers and he also edolo eizel the life and character of the departed the choir sang how gentle the lords commands after which the benediction was pronounced by elder reed somerville at the cemetery the choir sang god be with you tua we meet again and the dedicatory prayer was offered by bishop laddell of columbia the funeral was one of the largest id in moab in years in addition fo the large delegation of columbia friends numerous relatives of the debased were here from outside points tor the services among them were r and mrs angus stocks of dove creek colo mrs anna chamberlin t salina mrs gailla branson of fountain home idaho mrs kate of mountain home idaho w and mrs fred ames of gateway mr and mrs francis miller mrs pearl pannier and lisle pao colo mr and mrs ray armbuster nia and mrs of sweets utah mr lewis colo and millard branson dove mccabe mr and mrs james creek colo |
