Show CALLED BY DEATH MRS H S RUTLEDGE DIES IN GRAND JUNCTION HOSPITAL FOLLOWING EXTENDED ILLNESS mrs effie dean rutledge wife of H S rutledge mayor of moab and treasurer of grand county died monday morning at st marys hospital in grand junction where she had been taken three weeks ago for medical attention mrs rutledge bad been in poor health for several years about three months ago her condition took a change for the worse and when she failed to show any improvement she was taken to grand junction in the hope that the treatment of specialists might effect her recovery she grew steadily weaker however and life passed away early monday morning her husband and several of her children were with her at the end the body was brought back to moab arriving here tuesday evening funeral services presided over by the rev jonathon wood of the first baptist church were held yesterday afternoon from the star hall hundreds of sorrowing friends packed the hall to opacity and together with the remarkable display of floral tributes bore testimony to the esteem in which mrs rutledge was held by the community the opening prayer was offered by mr wood WR mcconkie was the first speaker and he spoke feelingly of his long acquaintance with mrs rutledge extending from high school days to the present she was a wonderful wife and mother he said and had demoted her life and soul to the welfare of her family every person who knew her the speaker said wag a better man bomian for having had the privilege of her acquaintance she had accomplished a wonderful program in life by rearing a family of splendid children rev wood spoke on scriptural matters he referred to the divine plan of salvation and stated that the bereaved family may draw comfort from the knowledge of a happy reunion in the hereafter four hymns were sung by mrs tom taylor mrs J B mrs maxwell mrs blanche mellen ahm miss bethel watts V P walker and L L taylor mrs dorothy alien being accompanist A large concourse of cars accompanied the casket to the cemetery at the crave prayer was offered by the rev wood and the choir sang nearer my god to thee mrs effie dean rutledge was 43 years of age she was born at brownstown Browns town indiana the daughter of absalom robertson and martha C mcclelland robertson when eight years of age she with her parents to washburn missouri where she spent her young girlhood her parents died within a month of each other and in may 1898 when fifteen years of age she came to moab to live with her brother A M robertson she attended high school at moab residing here until she was twenty two years of age on january 3 she married H S rutledge at canon city colorado the couple resided at canon city creede and in the cripple creek district for about five years they then returned to moab and have made their home at this place since then mrs rutledge Rui ledge is survived by her husband and six children who are edith jean who is a teacher in the moab central school evelyn a student of the university of utah berdene aged 17 horace 15 harper 13 and mary 10 she is also survived by two brothers A M robertson and C A robertson both of moab mrs rutledge was actuated through life by a passionate devotion to her family her home life was beautiful and she derived her greatest joy and happiness through the association and companionship of her husband and children she had a wide circle of friends who recognized in her the highest type of motherhood I 1 her untimely death is a terrible blow to her family and the deep sympathy of the entire broes out in unstinted measure to the husband and children who are so sorely bereaved |
