J Silliman He had been taken to the hospital hospital hospital hos hos- pital early Friday morning with witha a heart ailment aliment and passed away early Saturday morning B. B J. J as ashe ashe he was familiarly called was a awell awell awell I well known figure in the community community com com- comi i and state His splendid library was always gladly shared with anyone interested He had the hobby of collecting hard to obtain books He had a fund of legal historical and political knowledge and anI was frequently called upon for Tor information and advice Recently he had been doIng doing doing do do- ing considerable research on the exact location of the old Spanish Trail He was a friendly person and always had a cheery greeting for all Bertram Joseph Silliman was born March 31 1875 near Chenoa Chen- Chen oa oa Illinois the only son of Hiram and Agnes Silliman The family moved to Kansa Kansa- when he was wasa a small boy where he received his education in the grades and h h hi h h 1 1001 at Wini d d Kansas Artel giving he ne worked for years in a Winfield bank He married Susan Brock January 17 1899 They had one son son Joseph B. B Silliman Mr Silliman Sil Sil- liman was cashier of a bank in Dexter Kansas Shortly after moving there his wife died On June 20 1907 he married Mina L. L Adams Leaving the Dexter bank in 1915 the family moved to Green River where he was in charge of the local bank for some years after which he moved to his farm south of town where he resided until the time of his death He died at the Price hospital hospital hospital hos hos- pital December 28 1957 He always always always al al- al- al ways had been an active member member mem mem- ber her of the Presbyterian church teaching a Sunday school class and acting as church treasurer He I-fe e is survived by his wife four sons Major James Silliman of Sacramento California Joseph Kenneth and Howard of Green River one daughter Mrs Eva Connor of Wakefield Nebraska and a sister Mrs Henry Besler of Manhattan Kansas Mr and Mrs Silliman celebrated ed their Golden wedding anniversary anniversary sat sary In July of this year |
