Show DIES AT SALT LAKE CITY judge ferdinand enoksen Enc ksen for blany years prominent in legal business and political life in utah died wednesday of last week at st marks hospital salt lake city after an illness of several months he suffered a heart attack about six months ago and his condition grew steadily orse ordered to a lower altitude by his physician he went to dallas texas to visit a sister when his condition failed to improve he returned to salt lake and died there short 1 ly afterward judge enoksen was active in the democratic party for many years I 1 and was a factor in the development of sanpete county in a business and political atey he was the son of utah pioneers lars and christina hansen enoksen Enc ksen and was born at bit pleasant september 30 1863 he received his early education in sanpete county schools and later attended the B Y academy at provo after teaching school mt pleasant he attended law school at the university bof michigan graduating in 1890 his political life was long and varied in sanpete county he served as county attorney and county treasurer and was a candidate for the state senate iff 1894 but was defeated in 1897 he was elected mayor of mt pleasant in which capacity he served several terms in 1904 he was elected judge of the seventh judicial district comprising the counties cf sanpete San pete carbon emery grand and san juan the same year he was a delegate to the democratic national convention after serving his four year term as judge he was defeated for reelection re election and returned to the practice of law at mt pleasant he later was the democratic candidate for congressman from the first utah district in 1912 judge enoksen moved to salt lake where he became general counsel for the utah fuel company he retained the position until his death judge enoksen was a very popular judge when serving the seventh district just twenty years ago and but for the fact that the district wis overwhelmingly republican he would undoubtedly have held the as long as he desired it he ered his friends in southeastern utah by the hundreds and news of his death comes as a keen blow AI the judge had not visited this part of the state for many years he kept in close touch with conditions here and kept alive many friendships he made while serving as judge funeral services were held for judge enoksen at mt pleasant saturday the speakers were president S M nielsen delbert M draper of salt lake city justice J W cherry of the supreme court and judge george chistensen of price judge chistensen antes of the pr vices A goodly number of people carbon county from sevier and a host of the judges friends of sanpete attended the funeral which was conducted in a very fine liay the floral offerings were profuse and most beautiful and a splendid feeling of love and respect for the judge was manifested on every hand W G somerville of the somerville cattle company came in from indian creek saturday and spent a couple of days in town on his return tuesday he was danied bv mr and mrs dale shafer mr shafer will have charge of one of the companas comp anys ranches on indian creek duang the summer forest protection means less silt in reservoirs and ditches |
