Show Moab Loses Out in First Hoop Encounter Entering the Region Ten competition this year, the Moab Red Devils De-vils were favored to take everything, but not without with-out a fight. They were given a taste of the fights that will be theirs for the rest of the year. The Devils took to the road and should have stayed at home last week against the Monticello Bucks, who were out looking for revenge. The Bucks had dropped three games in a row, one to Moab earlier in the season, sea-son, and they were out to prove that they were no pushover. The Devils started hot and ended on a sour note as they lost their first encounter of the season. The Devils jumped off to -a 18-7 lead at the end of the first period, with the Bucks pulling to within ten points at the half. The first half was all Moab as they, could do no wrong, and the Bucks just had to sit and wait for them to get tired. The second half was a different game, however, as the Devils completely fell apart, started making mak-ing mistakes, and completely com-pletely lost interest in the contest. The Bucks pulled to within two points at the end of the third period and took a lead during the final minutes of the game that the Devils couldn't get back. Fouls played an important im-portant part in the game, with the Devils being called cal-led for 30 personal fouls and the host Buckaroos only called for 17. The Devils made 9 foul shots while the Bucks won the game with 20 out of 38 shots from the line. The Devils had to play the last part of the game with many players in foul trouble, including Mike Adkison and Jeff Cathey who fouled out of the contest. Four other oth-er Devils had four fouls at the end of the game and were limited in their effectiveness. Marlyn Wyatt and Bo Johnson each garnered 12 points for high honors for the Devils, but they were not enough to offset the high scoring of the Bucks. The Devils will be coming back strong again this week, with two games on the slate. Coach Del Ford has a lot of work to do to get their spirits up again after their first loss, but with the type of players he has available, it shouldn't take too long to do this. The Devils have eight remaining games in Region Re-gion Ten competition and need victories in most of them to qualify for the state tourney. |
