Your Holiday Safety Another long holiday weekend is approaching (Labor Day) and all military and civilian personnel are asked to use a lot of oommen sense SAFETY during mis period. DURING THE forthcoming holiday, highways will be crowded with vehicles. If the experience of the past year is any indication, we can expect unprecedented traffic tolls. ' Many people realize that death is very permanent; however, many driven forget that extreme caution plus defensive driving are necessary to eliminate accidents and fatalities. When the end of the Labor Day weekend rolls around, make sure your name does not appear on the injured or fatality statistic sheet Always adhere to posted speed limits, yield the and keep your car under control at all times. A CAR which is heavily-loade- d with passengers and gear demands more driving care. Acceleration is slower, stopping distances are longer and sway on curves is greater. And the fatigue which may result from these long drives at the beginning and end of the trip makes it easier for an accident to happen. The following recommendations are made for your safe Labor Day travel: Before starting the trip, get the car ready. Check the tires, lights, wipers, steering and brakes. Pack a flashlight, emergency flares and first-ai- d kit where they will be HAVE ALL passengers fasten their seat belts. Take only what you need. Load the car so that your rear vision isn't impaired. If you miss an expressway exit, continue on to the next one. TRY TO make a rest stop to stretch or change drivers at least every two hours.
