She also graduated from high school in three years after taking an aptitude test at 15. When her 17th birthday came along, she was married, and like most young girls she knew, she settled down to rear a family. There were three sons and three daughters who came to bless their household. Today people joke about having six children in 14 years, but it was being done in those days. They were happy years. Then tragedy struck! Her husband died without leaving them a roof over their heads, no insurance of anything to help take care of their future. The young wife had to fend for herself and those six children. This was in 1941, a time that seemed like the end of the world to Lila! At that time she not only had lost her husband, but also because her father and mother were then resting in that little cemetery in Hyrum. This learning meant dishes, washing cleaning floors, cooking and baking. With her Scandinavian ancestry, Lila always had been an excellent cook. Now she had to learn to multiply ingredients many times over. She turned out hundreds of sweet rolls, pies and doughnuts every day. With 15 dozen eggs, five gallons of oil and a few other ingredients she could whip up a most delicious salad. Lila married Sam Zona in 1947 in a beautiful ceremony, after 8 years of w idowhood. In 1948 they bid their Ogden friends goodbye and moved to Wendover, Elko County, Nevada, where they ran a successful restaurant.
