Its not a real pleasure writing or publicizing a losing team, but this one was different. The Falcons were plagued with bad breaks the entire season. Even in the game they won, it wasn't until in the waning moments that they were assured of the victory. Coach Jack Hannum, while giving a pep talk before an season game, remarked, "If we lose every early game or just win one, only win one; I want to be sure that every man on the team gave his total effort and due to the other teammates and the school. And they did just that. Clearfield won only one game but every participant gave it everything his soul would render. Alan Johnson is a name never to be forgotten in CHS football history. He rushed for 949 yards, broke nearly every other rushing record and set some defensive marks that will cover the record book for years to come He was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the year by his coaches and fellow teammates DIGITAL One bright spot on the football scene was the excellence of the sophomore team which went behind the coaching of Craig Hansen and Roger Reid. 7-- 2 Swimming SWIMMING - Coach Fred r Lange, one of the four mentors for Clearfield, fought with his desirable swim team to an even mark of 10 wins and 10 losses. They finally ended up fourth in the region meet. The season was more of a rebuilding experience than anything else. Coach Lange applied a number of new coaching techniques to his swim training, and as the season progressed, the dividends to show. His began philosophy of setting goals and doing other small things eventually began to pay off. He is involved this summer in the AAU set up in which several of next years swimmers are participating. It was surely one of the youngest teams. But a few members From the beginning Coach Reed, along with his top golfers, expected a season in which to rebuild. It was just that, a season for the younger players to build up their confidence while playing in high seeded positions. But the young members of the team began to improve at such a tremendous rate that the Falcons began to win matches towards the end of the season. Jerry Williamson received the Golfer of the Year award He was the team leader and was shooting in the mid 30s as the season came to a close. The competition was stiff all season long (Ogden was crowned the state champions for Region 2i, but Jerry seemed to handle the pressure with comparative ease. He took several medalist honors.
