The silencers used on high thrust aircraft will reduce the noise level by about 20 percent. Manufactured by Air Logistic Corp. and General Sound Control Co both of California, the silencers cost from each. Looking somewhat like an old fashioned steam boiler and working on the same principle as an silautomobile muffler, the 4 encer is placed behind the aircraft Then the aircraft is backed into the stove-pip- e opening of the silencer until the jet engine exhaust fits into it. Once the coupling is made, the jet engine is started up. Jet engines slated for test will be mounted on a stand in an sound proof room. Both intake and exhaust ports, will be sound proofed.
