Eyler was born in Aalbourg, Denmark, the son of Jens and Johanna Runchcl. He had one brother and one sister. His parents readily accepted the gospel message as given them by the young LDS missionaries in their home town and immediately set about to come to this country, arriving in 1917. Eyler was about two years old then. The family settled in Brigham City, but when Eyler was nearly six, they moved to Ogden. His mother died in childbirth shortly afterward and his father eventually married Martha Tcinisee. The Runchel children received their education in the Ogden Public schools. The father worked as an engineer for Swift and Co., for several years but is now retired. Eylcr's brother Olaf, lives in Og den, and his sister Hcnie, now Mrs. Frank Coxey, lives in Clearfield.
