The instinct for revenge and retribution is overwhelmingly strong in most of us, and whei someone hurts ui we want to hurt them as soon as we are able to do so. back a d just z Cottle - 1958 pay lip servee to the ideals of forgiveness, turning the other cheek, and doing unto one another as we would have them do unto us. But in our daily lives we dont often live up to these ideals. It is inconceivable, certainly for motf of us. to think that Mrs. Iavarone, if proved both sane and guilty, should go unpunished by the laws of man. But it is unimportant whether Mr. and Mrs Chionchio are right or wrong. WE SHOULD NOT withhold forgiveness, for everyone has at some time need to be forgiven. Revenge and malice are uneasy passions and bring happiness to no one harborof mind, if ing them. So for ones own peace for no other reason, a forgiving spirit should be cultivated. There is no trait of the human character more beautiful and more unselfish than this spirit of forgiveness. Lets think together next week. YVe |
