Vol. 2, No. 15 ) (5' c i.Av' & Mrs. Eliza Ritchie Raw Min . . . friendly, active at 82 By THORA MOORE Mrs Eliza Ritchir Raw son u a very outstanding woman She is very friendly and active at 82 years of age. she still enjoys her life very much Joy comes to her from her many friends and relatives She recently returned from a trip to Idaho Falls that she made on the bus along with her sister have ofen admired her white well kept hair and her friendliness She's the kind of a person who always wears a smile and doesn't for gel to use it She was born in Marriott on the 27th of March 1873, a daughter of James Ritchie and Martha Bright She married Walter H Rawson from Kanesville Soon after they were married Mr Rawson was called to serve a mission for the LDS Church laboring in West Virginia He was gone for two and one half years, during this time Mrs Rawson worked very hard to keep her and She her husband in clothing earned $3 a week which was pretty-goowages and it took (jinti- some time to earn the $50 for a derby-haand a Prince Albert coal and what went with them that the m.s sionaries wore in those days Her father had tw o w iv es Hannah and Martha Bright who weie sis ters Hannah had 18 children and Martha, Mrs Rawson s mot hi r had 12 A total of 30 ehildien Polygamy was practiced and as Mrs Rawson put it, as contageous as measles Nearly every man had more than one wife When the law went through and polygamy was fin ally done away with the marshals hounded the polygamist families They taught their children to be alert for the deputy marshals and when ever they saw a buggy drawn hv two horses, sure enough it would he a deputy They had bun taught to saw '(lout know'' to every ques tion ask them So every question ask them from who's your father to does your mother have a baby would gain an answer of don't knowAt one time Mrs Rawson's father paid a fine of $400 and was sent to prison for four months during this tune he was treated very poorly They shaved off his thick beard and also shaved his head Mrs Rawson was allowed to visit him just once during this term, or half an hour, and found him nothing hut skin and bones He was later made bishop ul the Marriott Ward anil served fot 20 years Mrs Rawson has lived a true Latter-daSaint life, working in Relief Society, religion classes, young ladies Mutual and Sunday-SchooThis lakes m just about all organizations, so one can plainly see she has lived a full live of church activity She has lived in South Weber for 33 years and a widow for four years She is the mother of three children the late Ivan Spencer Rawson, who died about nine years ago, lcRoy Glen Rawson, - Ogden and Mrs (Lamanda) Ray from South Weber, She also has five grandchildren and nine g r e a grandchildren, whom she enjoys veiy much.
