I purchased a pair of jogging shoes and began a running program on advise from Steve Baglow, a physical therapist who runs the Sports Medicine Clinic in Roy. He advised me to do a lot of stretching exercises, before running and to start out slowly. Jogging will keep you young, he said. I elected to run in Sandridge Park, which is just across the street from where I live and I was told to run on grass. Concrete running can be hard on the back and legs. I decided to run at night when it is cool and quiet and there would be no curious bystanders to make fun of me. Sandridge is a peaceful place at night, but not so lonely as you would imagine. Ive jogged onto some interesting scenes in the dark of the moon. Ive interrupted lovers, broke up pot parties, been chased by a dog, got caught in the automatic sprinklers, and had ten years of life scared out of me. (The doctor said it would make me younger!) It h It happened just before midnight one dark night. The park looked so quiet and peaceful as I stepped from the sidewalk, and jogged down into the ravine a man on the north side. As I came out of the gulley, onto the flat grass-lanleaped from behind a tree with a loud bellow, and grabbed me. Talk about a shock. I couldnt have been more scared if old Satan himself had come after me. The man was in his early twenties. He and his buddy were clowning in a in the park, that night, and I jogged innocently into game of little their . game. He apologized as I regained my composure, and we both had a good laugh, but Ill never get those ten.years back. On one occasion I almost ran over a man lying on the grass in the middle of the park. He was a fellow-jogge- r, doing his stretching exercises. I thought I had found a corpse. One night, as I jogged, I heard a tinkling sound, and looked down at a big playful German Shepherd dog, galloping at my side. He thought it was fun. Some teenagers came one late night, and in the safety of the wide open spaces, began lighting up in their closed circle. That wasnt Bull Durham they were smoking. Then there was the night I stopped at midfield to catch my breath, and the automatic sprinklers came on suddenly. Its remarkable how quickly one can get that second wind in a crisis. I didnt get too wet. Let me add my endorsement to this idea of jogging. I do feel better, and I like it. Maybe you will run am sleeping more soundly. Try did. I like some into excitement, See you tonight in the park, but stay away from that sinister looking tree. hide-and-se- play sets games 120 POUNDS at Ogden 9 a.m. at Layton 9 am.
