Highway 91, now supplies water to over hundreds of families, a good indication of its rapid growth. It is one of the progressive communities in our area. Sunset begins on the west at the Oregon Short Line railroad where the valley starts its upward climb to the mountains. Just high enough up on this rise to give a clear view of the fertile level valley below and of the beautiful lake beyond was built the first church. It was from this vantage point on an evening when a Utah sunset shown in all its splendor that a group of people searching for a name adopted a suggestion by Mrs. John Randall that the town be called Sunset. In 1916, Sunset was just emerging from the Sand Ridge days when wagons changed from a deep rut in the sand to a newer one to save the horses from the heavy drag of even an empty wagon. Replaced now by a four lane cement highway with hundreds of automobiles streaming one behind the other, the imagination of newcomers is challenged and the memories of older residents makes them doubt. its rapid growth in population, the town later built a town hall and fire station, on the east To keep pace with side of the highway about 300 feet north of the former temporary town hall site.
