Show 2 ' 2002 March Carbon and Emery County Sports Guide Spring sports bring outdoor fun and enjoyment 'Hit crack of the Imt, the woosh of a golf club, the smack of a soccer Imll: those are as much the sounds of spring as the gurgling of running water from melting snow and thesingingof birds. While many sports are played in Eastern Utah, ImselMdl is king when the weather year around gets warm and the sun starts to stay out past ii p.m. in the evening I jisl year was one of the best years for baseball in the area. Good luck to all the teams! Carbon's boys soccer team took big strides last year, coming on strong toward the end of the season. Track teams from all the high schools qualified athletes for the state meet, and a few placed highly in those contests. The track team from CEU qualified two men for the nationals and they did well In their competition as well. The rodeo clubs from Carbon and Emery High kept up their fast paced schedules, as parents and supporters travelled all over the state to keep up with their favorite cowboys and cowgirls. Other Bports add to the spring schedule. Green River High has a good golf team year after year and Carbon sports a water polo team that uses the municipal pool for their contests. The fact is that often spring sports in the high schools and the college are a good Introduction to summer sports. Little League baseball teams from the area often do well in post season competition, with community support often generated in someway by the spring success at the educar tional institutions.
