Show 7' Sun Advocate Price, Utah Thursday January 24, 2002 By KRISTINA KONTOAS Gmtributingwriter Many in Lehi had the attitude Oat when they came into Region 8 this year tfcir teams would roll over all the existing members of the league. So far the only sport inwhim they entirely dominated the league was girls soccer.' But certainly not girls basketball. As expected, the Carbon High Lady Dittos added a win to their record, nowtOiq region, and 14-- 2 overall. What was not expected was the fight that Lehi would put up. Eventually, the Lady Dinos only the win, but the ,pped ;hugest point marginal loss for i Lehiofl the year, 6 For the Lady Dinos, this game ' :Was what was neeeded. 62-4- -- J basket after basket, and nulling down rebound after rebound. The unusual aspect of the game wiis offensive fouling. Within the first few minutes, three of those calls had been made. Both teams took numerous time outs during the first part of die game. Lehi made some adjustso we came back with our ments, ' own, commented head coach BruceBean. At the end of the first quarter the score was 15-The second quarter looked a little bit different Lehis number 11, Candice Fischer, started penetrating Carbon's defense, but failed to stop their offense, with the Dinos out scoring the Pioneers After the hal Lehi showed no signs of letting up on their game. "The girls didn't cook ready to play. They saw that they had a tough competitor. It was a good to prepare them for state :at the state level, the contests aren't going to be as easy as many of these have been, commented former Lady Dino, and Vice Principal Missy Lehi, whose record was overall, battled for two purposes. One, to steal Carbon's first place in Region 8. And two, to defeat 3As fourth tanked team. Despite Lehi's rough start, those thoughts didnt start to di- from their minds until the of the fourth quarter The game began as it Usually does for the Lady Dinos making 2--0, 9--3 well-earn- 8. ed Ssr 16-1- 1. , We started to take some really silly shots that shouldnt have been token," added coach Bean. In the final quarter, the point gap wu constantly changing. One minute there irould be 20 point difference; but at other times the lead fell to as low as eight points. It wasn't until the final few minutes of the game that the Lady Dinos grasped their hold on their lead and started to take more control of the game. The leading scorer in the swasCsssieltarburtonwith pninf SwTffrW 1 HAH 1ft thought Cox is player of the game. Shegol in there and boaing out, and pulling down rebounds, as well as making a majority of her shots at the line, mentioned assistant coach Stacy Itarburton. Carbons next game isnt until next week when they face Delta in Millard County. Delta lost to North Sanpete on Tbesday At this point the Lady Dinos have played everyone in Region 8and We had relatively little opposition. That doesnt mean the second half of the league seasqn wont change that however, teams improve over the course of league play. But it does appear that with two regular home league games left and two on the road they have pretty much wrapped up tiie 46-4- 3.
