Show letters to the editor 'So what?' to sheriff's office report To the editor: I read the much awaited commission report concerning the Carbon County Sheriffs Office and came to the conclusion that the committee drafted a document long on rhetoric and short on substance. In essence the main issues are that the sheriff would not promote by seniority people who were not doing their jobs, that he gave a member of the opposite sex a ride in a patrol car and that communications (an overused, meaningless buzz word) were bad. So what? Enough is enough, good Carbon County. Our sheriff, Barry Bryner, needs our help. He inherited some problems that he promised to solve, but his attempts to solve them made some people and citizens of special interest groups unhappy. They have banded together against him. Sheriff Bryner is an honest lawman maybe not perfect like you and me but he is blessed with an effervescent personality, the kind of personality we need in this area to keep things interesting and on the straight and narrow. We had better band together and support Sheriff Bryner, or we will end up with a enhanced with the personality of a dial tone. Lets rally around our sheriff and support him. He needs us now, and we certainly need him. For a refreshing change, lets have good citizens rage against the rabble. Don Justesen Price Build new pool now To the editor: Last week I received newsletter semi-annu- al my from Price city. Mayor Art says that Price city is committed to build a new swimming pool. He doesnt say when it will be built or where, but the city council is committed. Thats great news. However, in the same stack of mail was a letter from the pool managers. They said that if they could get the outdoor pool open this summer, we might have a swimming program. If not, were in deep trouble with scheduling. If you want to get a tan this summer, you should probably look for some other place besides the pool. Some people have speculated that the city council desires to make the new pool part of an urban renewal project. They have a great blighted part of Price to put it in, near the old CB Inn east of town. Since when is the pool supposed to be part of urban renewal? Another spot that the council is looking into is near the bypass. The city would have to purchase the land at either location. Tourist traffic is cited as a reason for these nearhighway locations. I dont know about you, but Id like a pool centrally located where my kids can walk or ride their bikes to it. The pool is for the citizens of Price. I think it is doubtful that tourists will stop in Price merely for the availability of a municipal pool. The proposal to build the pool near the existing indoor pool is the most rational decision. Its centrally located; you dont have to hire more ad- ministrative staff, and we own the land. Come on, Mayor Art and city council, lets make up our minds and build the pool now before the old pool dies for good and inflation raises costs more. Sincerely, Mark A. Mackiewicz Price Homes for students To the editor: Many foreign exchange students will not depart their countries with next years contingent for a school year in the U.S. because the families who agreed to host them have changed their plans. If any of your readers would like to discuss hosting an IFI student, they should call collect day or night. If homes are secured, the remaining students could arrive approximately Sept. 1, 1988. Your kindness in publishing this letter on behalf of these students, whose parents have agreed to host a U.S. student, is deeply appreciated. Sincerely, Wm. R.
