Show 8A Sun Advocate, Price, Utah -- - Tuesday, April 20,1999 OBITUARIES John Carr Leon Lines EAST CARBON - John M. Garr, age 73, passed away on April 16, 1999 at Castleview Hospital in Price. Born March 31, 1926 in Hiawatha, to Richard G. and Dorothy (Dollie) Sederholm Garr. Married Helen Barnett on June 10, 1951 in Hiawatha. Life long resident of Carbon County. Served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Bosque during World War II. Graduated Carbon College. Attended University of Utah and later graduated from Utah State University with his master degree. Former employee of U.S. Fuel at Hiawatha. Later governmental relations and public relations director for American Coal, Emery Mining, Coastal States and the Coal Industry of Utah. Former counselor at East Carbon High School. Elected to the Utah State House of Representative for 12 years and served as the minority whip. Served Utah State Board of Oil & Gas, State Land and Boating Advisory, and AARP Legislative PRICEGLENDALE, Ariz. Our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and dear friend, Leon Lester Lines, age 75, died April 13, 1999 at his Forum. Past president Utah School Counselor Association, Member College of Eastern Utah Foundation Board. Served Carbon County Commissioner for one term. Honorary life member of Price Elks Lodge 1550. Member East Carbon American Legion, Price Kiwanis, past president Carbon County Teachers Association, past chairman Carbon County Democratic party. John dedicated his political and home in Glendale, Ariz. He was born April 12, 1924 in Rolapp, to William Bill and Amy Catherine Sorensen Lines. Married Barbara Branch, later divorced. Married Colleen Jessen Dec. 26, 1974 in Phoenix, Ariz. Member of the LDS Church. Former resident of Carbon personal life to serving the people of southeastern Utah. He will be dearly missed by those he served. Survived by wife, Helen Garr, East Carbon; son, Gregory T. and Karen Garr, Rochester Hills, Mich.; daughter, Debi Garr and Ed, Monmouth, Ore.; grandchil- dren, Emily Caitlin Garr, Kristin Rachel Garr; sister, Dorothy McCormick, Gallipolis, Ohio; brother, Dr. William R. Garr, Chicago, 111. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 21, 2 p.m., Mitchell Chapel. Family will be at Mitchells Tuesday evening 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the John M. Garr Memorial Scholarship Fund, co College of Eastern Utah, Price, UT 84501. John Sherman HUNTINGTON - John Edward Sherman, 83, died April 13, 1999 while working on his farm in Huntington. He was born Dec. 20, 1915 in Huntington to Orlo L. and Agnes C. Gordon Sherman. He married Elizabeth Koss April 12, 1939 in Price. He enjoyed farming, fishing and dancing. He was a member of the LDS Church and the United Mine Workers of America. He is survived by three children, Jack (Carma) Sherman, Cordon Cribby GREEN Gordon LeDuc Cribby, age 72, died April 16, 1999 at his home in Green RIVER - River. He was born Jan. 24, 1927 in Montrovey, Wash., to Stewart and Mable LeDuc Cribby. He is survived by his wife, Marian Norton Cribby; daughters, Sandy McDonald, Lorrie Jo. Felix Ortega PRICE -- Huntington; Gordon Sherman, Salt Lake City; and Lorraine (Bob) Mills, Huntington; seven grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Rose Tuttle, Price. He was preceded in death by his wife; and son Clinton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, 10 a.m., in the Huntington lst5th LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Huntington Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. Cribby and Toni Cribby; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by stepchildren, Carolee Rodriguez, Judy Shupe, Maxine McConkie, Rickie Stott, and Roger Stott. Leon served as an infantry commander and 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWII. Served as counter intelligence officer in the Korean conflict and was decorated with European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal, WWII victory medal and the combat infantry badge. Served as president of the Ari- zona Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers and Southwest Professional of the Year. Retired from Arizona public service company in 1989. Survived by wife, Colleen Lines, Glendale; daughters, Lacinda and Robert Witt, Anchorage, Alaska; Lori and David Orton, Tomball, Texas; sons, Leon Jr. and Jeanne Lines, Orem; Ray and Sharon Lines, Pleasant Grove; two sisters, Leona Markosek, Monticello; Amy and Veloy Sorensen, Sunnyside; step- brother, Tom and Opal Cowan, Pahrump, Nev.; 19 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service Wednesday, April 21, 11 a.m., Price 5th LDS Ward Chapel. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Jeffrey Wayne Johnson KEARNS Our special brother, uncle and friend, Jeffrey Wayne Johnson , passed away at the home of his sister the morning of Thursday, April 15, 1999. Born in Price Jan. 28, 1938 to Helen Ada Ericksen and Wayne E. Johnson. He attended public and Catholic schools and was a graduate of the Salt Lake City School of Electronics. He was a short wave radio operator in Price for many years. In March of 1993, he moved to Kearns. Jeff was a member of the West Valley Mental Health STAT Center, where he made many cherished friends. He loved to give a cheerful hello to everyone he knew and was a friend to everyone who would let him be one. He was especially fond of his nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who ever knew him. Survived by a brother, Jan E. Max Tucker ELMO - Max E. Tucker, age 85, passed away April 18, 1999. He was born Nov. 1, 1913 to Lillard and Martha Mable Tucker. His father passed away when he was 5 years old. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, John Lofley. He married Norma Jane Timothy Dec. 11, 1934. Max worked at Cudahy Packing. He said he could be happy anywhere if he was working with it. He worked at various coal mines in Carbon County as an electrician for over 10 years. Whether Felix was first an electrician or a gambler is debatable. He loved both and courted both equally. Although Felixs abilities could have taken him anywhere, he chose to live in Price, for most of his live. He liked the people he worked, associated, played with and was proud of Price and its H. Riedel George FERRON - Our beloved H. Riedel George, 60, passed away peacefully on April 16, 1999. It was the end of a long battle with a vicious disease that he fought bravely to the end. He was born Aug. 24, 1938 in Price. He is remembered fondly as a father of five, a hard worker and an asset to everyone who had the chance to know him. He had a love of the outdoors and spent many hours teaching his family the joys of the world around them. He was actively involved in his church and gladly fulfilled all his callings. Riedel was always willing to help others. Riedel was a jack of all trades. He was gifted with tools and the know how to fix most anything. Because of his talents he was able to work in a variety of positions. Above all else, Riedel will be remembered for his never ending wisdom and the unconditional love he gave everyone around him. He will be missed. Riedel is survived by his wife, Margalynn; five children, Jami and Mark Luce, Ferron; Jodi McCullough and Jaquie George, culture. He is survived by two sisters and four brothers, Anna Mae Perez, (Carol) Ortega, Rudy (Cathy) Ortega and Robert (Debbie) Ortega, Price;-Patrici- Ogden area; Gary Ortega, Price; Elaine (Raymond) Martinez, Hayward, Calif.; and Tomas (Rosa) Ortega, Union City, Calif. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Amos. A combined viewing and funeral service will be held Thursday, April 22, 7 p.m. at MitchelJ Mortuary, 233 E. Main, Price. Felix has requested cremation so interment will occur at a later date in the Price City Cemetery. Kindra George, Logan; Heidi Pollard, Bartlett, Tenn.; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers, three sisters, one grandson and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 22, 11 a.m., at the Elmo LDS Chapel. ORANGEVILLE - Kenneth Ray Thompson died April 14, 1999 following complications resulting from a valiant fight with cancer. He was born June 20, 1940 in Ephraim to Ray N. and Virginia Thompson. He married Dixie Keech in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Friday, Sept. 14, 1963. Ken served an LDS mission in Norway. Ken was a proud father to five children, Aaron (Melanie) Thompson, Anna (Chris) Freeman, Adam (Diana) Thompson, Andrew Thompson, and Amber (Justin) Graham, and 10 grandchildren whom he loved spending time with. Ken enjoyed excursions to the desert and mountains. He especially looked forward to his yearly winter camp with the boys. We are honored to have had Ken in our lives. His memory will be cherished in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren; father and sisters, Susan, Linda and Tana. He was preceded in death by his mother; and brother-in-laand dear friend, Don Pullan. Funeral services were Saturday, April 17, 3 p.m., in the Orangeville LDS Chapel. Felix had fought cancer for 10 years and died of cancer related complications. He was born Aug. 31, 1943 in Toas, N. Mex., to Rudolfo G. and Corina Maria (Cisneros) Ortega. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Felix received 36 months of advanced electronics and electrical training while in the Air Force and was also a licensed electrician. Felix served four years in the Air Force as an electronics and electrical troubleshooter on jet airplanes.
