Lee, leader of 3.2 million Mormons located in all free countries around the world, stated, The family Is mankind's basic unit. The greater peace and goodwill we seek for all the world, to be realized, must begin In the home." Pure hearts In a pure home are always within whispering distance of heaven," was the meaningful statement of our beloved President David O. McKay, a former church president. All of us, on this good earth, are truly sons and daughters of our heavenly Father. Beginning in the home, may all mankind, come closer to one another that all may be 'within whispering distance of heaven,' by realizing more than ever that. Indeed, we are all truly brothers and sisters," President Lee pleaded. "May we be mindful of the tender relationship the Savior maintained during his childhood and throughout his life to his mother Mary and to Joseph, the 5,000,000. With this picture before us, may we recall his words and those of the prophets down to the present day stressing the Importance of the family. To Impress the importance of the family, the resurrected Lord admonished everyoneto 'pray In your families unto the Father, always In my name. . . "In these challenging times, when there are so many influences which would undermine and threaten the solidarity of the home, we need to follow the words of the Lord to the prophet Malachi. The mission of Elijah was to turn the hearts of parents to children and the hearts of the children to the parents, lest the Lord 'come and sm ite the earth with a curse.' "There is no doubt but that this should apply as much to parents and children here upon this earth as in behalf of those who are beyond the veil of mortality," President Lee said. as "Family Home The church sets aside Monday night world-wid- e Evening," and counsels each family to meet together for study and recreation, banning any church meetings or activities on that night. Children participate in planning and presenting the evening's activities. The family home evening manual provides stories, games, lessons, activities, suggestions tor refreshments, and a multitude of resources to help each family have fun while growing In the gospel together. Suggestions for family home evening programs also are provided by church members, leaders and speakers at church meetings. Also, around the world, two home teachers visit each famly at least once monthly, giving Ideas for the family home evening and assisting the parents and children in strengthening family bonds. These home teachers are appointed by the local church bishop after careful study of the family's needs and the experience and wisdom of the propsectlve home teacher. Often the home teacher will meet separately with the parents to discuss how he and his companion, and the church programs and auxiliary organizations, can assist the family. In addition, each mother In the home Is visited monthly by visiting teachers of the church's organization for women, the Relief Society, which assists her with weekly meetings In child care, literature, music, social science, theological and cultural subjects. Bishop J. Blaine Tuttle Man Is that he might have oy, as an individual and as a family. The gospel and the church are available to help him obtain this oy. Theology is the study of God, and religion Is the application of this study In our lives. The church Is an organization through which the purpose of the Lord can be accomplished. The gospel Is the truth and the truth shall make us free. This Is the admonition of the Savior to all mankind. How well we comply to the principles and programs is an Indication of our knowledge and faith of the source from which it is obtained. One of the principles programs organized and presented to us Is the Family Home Evening Program. The family home evening manual, being used locally for the ninth year to In 17 languages. strengthen family ties, Is now being published world-widThis was the report today of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints, sponsors of the program. In 1972, more than 675,000 copies of the family home evening manual were distributed free to families of the church and others concerned about modern-damoral challenges to the family unit. Each year a new manual Is published by the church and distributed to Interested families.
