Show Thursday, October 1, 1953 THE rie 953 Deer Hunts Released This Week 1 requested total of 75,000 deer proclamations covering the rules and regulations for the 1953 deer season have been mailed from the Utah Fish and Game Department offices. The majority have been issued to license agents. Several thousand have gone to resident sportsmen, along with over 2,000 who. have writto ten or called for information regarding this largest of all the Utah big game hunts. Department Director J. Perry Egan said that, Mome than ever this year it is important that each sportsman going deer huntA ts ing know the rules covering the area he intends to hunt." He noted that under the broad authority given Utahs Board of Big Game Control by the 1953 legislature, a greater variety of types of hunting and length of seasons was scheduled by the Board this year in an attempt to realize a more equitable harvest in the states sixty-tw- o deer hunting units. Opening date for the general season is set for Saturday, October 17, with the length of season varying from six days near the states center of population to thirty-on- e days in some outlying sections. The types of hunts vary from buck only areas to several special hunts where a second deer may be taken, with most units open to either sex hunting during the general eleven day season. One early hunt is scheduled to get under way September 26.
