Unimproved Road Backed by an appropriation of $750,000 for completion of U. S. highway 6 in southwestern Utah, the state road commission Friday asked for bids on an section of the road west of Delta. This is a portion of the only unimproved portion of this highway which stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast and which has been designated as the Grand Army of the Republic highway. The completion of this portion of the highway has been the aim of many Chamber of Commerce along the route including the Price Chamber of Commerce which cited that .unimproved por .ion as a determinet to tourist travel over this st highway. D. H. Whittenburg, commission chairman, said the U. S. Public Road administration notified the sta.e Thursday that the new fund had been set up to complete the highway through Millard county. It was written into the 1950 highway act by Senators Arthur V. Watkins (R., U.ah) and Pat (D, Nevada), he was informed. Money allocated comes from a special appropriation set aside to complete important federal highways crossing public domain, Mr. Whitten-our- g pointed out. He added that the U.ah section is the only unimproved stretch on a crosscountry highway from Massachusetts to the Pacific coast. The section advertised will connect with a stretch of improved road from the Nevada state line to Skull pass, 18 miles west of Delta. Plans are to advertise the remaining 33 miles of unimproved highway during the winter in order that work can commence in the spring. Ten miles of the latter will be financed on Utahs federal aui program, said Mr. Whittenburg, Put the remaining 23 miles are on public domain and will be eligible for 100 per cent government 18-m- ile coast-to-coa- Mc-Carr- an non-match- - Sob UJ C&mnknt Branches in Uri and Sou them Idaho AT BOOK VALUE OR BELOW '548 '542 542 541 '541 '541 Mercury 4 Door. fect motor.
