Utah has in operation an unemployment compensation plan under which benefits will be paid to the unemployed beginning in January, 1938, to persons engaged in most commercial and industrial occupations. There will be twm types e of benefits and partial, Benefits will be based on the employees past earnings record, not to exceed 50 per cent of the average wrage, or $15 per week, for a period of 14 to 16 weeks. The payments, as you can see, are not to be permanent relief benefits or large enough to en- courage unemployment. The purpose of these payments is to give the worker a limited income over a period while he is looking for a new job and to keep him off the relief rolls during the interval between jobs. This will help to keep up the morale of the worker and will keep his household intact. This is a real bene-- 1 fit to the average worker whose re- -i sources are usually exhausted the day his employment ends, The advantages of unemployment compensation are not confined to the worker alone, but extend to the community in which he lives, to his em-- 1 ployer, and to industry and society wide-spre- w- A pnnicie ed benefits, or old-aFederal old-aif we insurance, are best understood compare them with insurance.
