Lucius Laudie, representative of the State Tax commission, is in Price this week in connection with the administration of the Utah two per cent sales tax. Mr. Laudie desires to call to the attention of all truckers of coal, the necessity of obtaining a state sales tax license of $2.00, and making report of tax due on sales of coal, as required under the state regulations. Any individual buying coal for his own use may pay the tax at the mine, but if the coal is purchased for resale, then the trucker becomes a coal dealer and must obtain a state sales tax license and pay tax on the price of the coal at which it was sold to the consumer. In other words, the Utah sales tax is a consumers tax, and it is based on the price at which tht consumer pays for the product. Mr. Laudie states that in some cases truckers of coal have been reporting tax on the price paid for the coal by them at the mine, which is in error.
