At tlie pre it tune, eight of the nine county officials, as well as both state representatives, are Democrats, and the G, O. P. is determined, according to party leaders, that the Republicans will have a much better representation in county government after the ballots have been counted on November 6. Republican office seekers have not cast their hats in the ring in such large numbers as their rivals, but quite a few names will probably be entered in the contest during the convention, and the meeting undoubtedly will not lack in interest. At the present time, 13 candidates are in tlie field and contests have developed for only four positions, namely, sheriff, county attorney, surveyor and commissioner. Sheriff S. M. Bliss is the only Republican incumbent, and he will be opposed for the nomination by George Collingham of Price, who formerly held that office. Sheriff Bliss has served two terms. There are three candidates for the county attorneyship: Arthur S. Horsley and S. J. Sweetring of Price and Thorit Hatch of Helper. Rudolph Larcher and Ralph P. Anderson of Price seek the nomination for surveyor, while William B. Stap-le- y of Castle Gate, George Schultz of Latuda and Albert W. Shiner of Price are in the race for commissioner. They have not stated which term they seek. Other candidates are Mrs. McClure Wilson of Price for recorder S. P. Colton of Helper for treasurer and Milton S. Wycoff of Helper for state representative. J. F. MacKnight is a receptive candidate for state representative, but has made no formal announcement. As yet no Republicans have publicly announced their candidacies for clerk or assessor, but Carlyle Pace, deputy district court clerk, aspires to the former position. The Republicans will hold their election on the final day allowed by law for the naming of candidates, and the fact that the convention comes on the day following the Democratic meet will give them an opportunity to do some maneuvering in matching the Bourbon nominees.
