McCardle, grand knight of Carbon council No. 2611, Knights of Columbus, announced Wednesday that a delegation representing the organization will meet with the board of education Saturday to request that Columbus day, Friday, October 12, be observed as a holiday in the school district. The council is desirous of arranging for appropriate exercises in every school on October 11, with the suspension of classes the following day. A dance in observance of Columbus day will be held at Helper, Saturday, October 13, and plans are being made for a community celebration on October 12. Work Underway On Gymnasium Entrances Work is underway on the construction of two outside entrances to the Carbon high school gymnasium, one of the doors to open on the gallery in the northeast corner of the gym and the other to open on the main floor in the northwest corner.
