Sugar beets under cultivation in Carbon county have held up extreme ly well despite the severe drouth, according to Ray Branch, field agent He for the Holly Sugar company. reported Monday that several patches in the county are expected to yield between 15 and 18 tons per acre. Mr. Branch estimates that beet producers of the county will harvest about 600 acres out a total of 825 planted. The sugar company contracted with farmers for about 1100 acres, but a large number did not plant as many as they had planned because of the early drouth indications. If there are a few fairly heavy showers between now and September 15, the beet crop will be up to normal and a number of patches will be above normal, Mr. Branch said.
