Undoubtedly the question of making possible the opportunity for the people of Utah to express their wishes in connection with repeal of the Eighteenth amendment will be up for con sideration and this is as it should be. Whether agreeing with or being opposed to the Eighteenth amendment certainly all should be willing that the people have an opportunity to express their wishes in the matter at the ballot box. SELDOM it is that a community is accorded the national recognition that has been won for this district by excellence of the work of the Carbon county high school band. Placing first in the marching division at the national band contest and ranking near the top in the concert competition, the local band capped the climax fittingly to a season that has been unsually outstanding for the junior musical organization. The state and intermountain victories scored by the local band were fitting training season accomplishments that carried with them much honor. Success of the band has been largely due to proper training by instructors and a willingness to work many hours and give close attention to their work by the band members. In fact, the victorious result of the band campaign this year can be to a great degree pointed to as the possibility of success through cooperation. Director E. M. Williams has every reason to be the recipient of the choicest congratulations from every quarter. Every resident of Carbon county is justly proud of the musical organization Mr. Williams has welded into a unit of success. The cost of the 'majestic golden staircase is not stated; but probably the total price, including special costumes, was ten or twenty times the sum to be one that will have a bearing of advantage to this district for many years to come.
