S. church genealogical board, were the principal speakers at the annual convention of the Carbon Stake Genealogical society held Sunday in the city hall and tabernacle. The theme of the first session at 9:00 p. m..in the city hall was "Activities of Genealogical Committees." Among toe subjects discussed were: True genealogical leadership, efficient committees of specialists, the art of. home teaching and the planning of successful dasswork. "Records and Research" was the tlieme of the second meeting at 10:00 a. m. Discussion and demonstrations were given by the visiting officials on the following subjects: The lesson course in genealogy, the proper family record, successful family organizations, how to find unknown forefathers, cooperative research through the church genealogical archive. A public meeting was held at the L. D. S. tabernacle at 2:00 p. m., a discussion of temple service featuring the meeting. A bill requiring boards of education to close one and schools located within eight miles of a larger school has been introduced in the state legislature by Senator George M. Miller of Carbon county. Senator Miller also has a bill to place In effort a measure of budget control. Uhder his plan, the secretary of supplies and purchase, as budget director, must furnish the governor monthly a complete statement of the condition of the state general fund, and require from each department by May 15 of each year, a complete work program for the next fiscal year. Under the direction of the governor, he may alter items in the program if he deems it necessary. Another measure prepared by Senator Miller proposes to reorganize toe state banking department, placing it In charge of a commission of four, to be named by the governor for four-yeterms, and removable for cause. Uhder Senator Miner's plan, the state bank department would be made self sustaining, from receipts to the department, anything in excess of $15,-0a year to go to the state general fund. Senator Miller voted in favor of advancing the corporation franchise tax bill to toe third reading calendar. The measure proposes to Increase the franchise tax' rate from three to four per cent, and to drop toe property tax offset.
