Unanimous favor was accorded the document and City Recorder William Grogan was authorized to prepare and submit copies to interested parties. Would Curtail Coal According to information submitted during the meeting, it was learned that certain interests within the state are sponsoring legislation wherein the coal industries of the state would be injured to an extreme extent." The proposed legislation, it was reported, would curtail coal as being used in the larger municipalities and bring about an elimination to the smoke nuisance. Smokeless fuel of an undetermined type would be instigated to replace coal and this fact should the measure receive official approval would be of a harmful nature to the industries throughout the state and particularly Carbon county which in itself is the leading section of the state. Is Major Industry Explaining the unanimous action in passing the resolution, it. was said that should coal be barred from use, a serious situation would arise. Carbon county looks to its coal industries as the main factor in business here with thousands of tons being produced every month. More than 20 major coal mines are operated within the county, employing hundreds of men through direct and indirect channels and comprising the major industry of eastern Utah. The money is to be given a group of workers and will be used by them in promoting the bill passage. The council, continuing on the subject of a junior college, passed a resolution granting the state of Utah the title to approximately 40 acres of unoccupied land and also the use of the city fairgrounds for an athletic field, an additional 20 acres, should they approve the measure. The tract in mind, is situated north of the fairgrounds in the Parkdale section. Thanks Rendered An expression of thanks to the C. C. Minutes of the November and December meetings were officially approved. The council also awarded a $300 per month laundry contract to the Price Steam Laundry from the hospital. This contract does not include the laundrying of nurses uniforms, that being excluded.
