The current year marks the 63th anniversary of the founding of the collegein Price. Formerly known as Carbon College, CEU was established with the mission "to bring higher education to the residents of Carbon. Finery, Grand and San Juan counties." That mission has remained unchanged in the 65 years of the college. ' However, the founders probably did not envision the emergence of multiple campuses and outreach sites at each of the four counties when they established the original three building educational institution in Price. The Founders Day committee has selected three persons to be added to the CEU Athletic Hall of Fame. The inductees will include Connie Atkinson, who participated in womens at CEU in 1988; Lane Martino, who is remembered for his football prowess at Carbon High and Southern Utah State College; and Jack Woodward, who excelled as an athlete in baseball and football and coached for 23 years. ath-let- ks ' ' New donors to the CEU Gold Circle scholarship fond will be also be recognized and awarded Eagle statues during the upcoming Founders Day celebration. In addition, a special tribute to Dorothy and Deane Brown, music educators whose talents and dedication provided opportunities and inspiration to generations of students, will include numbers performed by CEUs chamber choir and the alumni of Carbon Highs a cappella choirs. Choir director Russell Wilson is still contacting alumni to participate in the tribute musical numbers. , The events scheduled for Founders Day include a ceremonial ground breaking for the new G.I. Reeves main building, planned at4 p.m. in the east parking lot located on 400 North; a reception for the honorees and their families starting at 5 p.m. in the college center foyer, and a buffet dinner 6 p.nu, followed by the awards and tributes.
