We seem to forget that there is nothing peculiar to the south itself which is responsible for this national disgrace, and that any one of us, an-group, any community in the United States may be visited with the same affliction unless the usual diet contains adequate quantities fo the vitamin known as nicotinic acid. A comparatively recent issue of the New England Medical Journal has an article describing commonly over-- ! looked signs of chronic pellagra in the northern part of the United States. Some of these signs are: Hy-- 1 pergeratosis (hard growth of tissue) particularly as such points as elbows, knees, and bottoms of feet; a dryness and scaliness of the skin; a coating on the tongue, leaving clear reddened edges and tip. Other symptoms include constipation, poor appetite, and burning sensation in the region of the stomach shortly after meals. There may be mental symptoms such as a feeling of tenseness, irritability, mental depression, and emotional insta- $ yonder hill. A flock of about 50 Canadian geese were seen circling overhead. The confusing thing about the whole affair, however, was the fact that they were headed south. Now, that just doesnt make sense for this time of the year, so we contacted some of the old hunters and game en- thusiasts and were told that the geese were probably headed north when they ran into a storm over the summit. Geese, being smart people, knew better than to buck the storm so they turned tail and started back, probably to locate on the Price or the Green rivers until the storm cleared. That explanation sounded logical to us so we still have our hopes up for a near spring. We could tell they (P. S. were Canadian geese by the ringed markings around their necks. In addition to the meetings of the citizens of Greenriver a session of the city council was held and George Beebe, mayor of the Emery county community, was named to go to the state capitol to register a protest against location of the Japanese in his home area, according to reports reaching Price. It was reported that following the meetings a telegram was dispatched to the representatives of the Japanese advising them that they could not locate at Greenriver.
