The candidate machinery was placed in operation by the placement of the name of Dr. C. R. Fahring, of Helper, incumbent commissioner, before the delegates as a candidate for the nomination to the four-yeterm to that office, Silas Rowley advancing the railroad city dentist for consideration. Then followed the naming of Robert McKinnon, Hiawatha dairyman, by Mrs. Steckelman of the same community for consideration for the same office. A third prospect was placed in the field in the person of Roger Reynolds, also a Helper man, by Robert Henderson of Kenilworth. Balloting by the delegates followed with Commissioner Fahring proving victor with a total of forty-fiv- e votes. Reynolds received twenty-thre- e and McKinnon was accorded eleven. Two nominations were then made by acclamation, that of Orval Peterson of Columbia for the two-yecommissionership and County Attorney Marl D. Gibson for the office he now occupies. The second contest of the evening, probably the most interesting from the standpoint of candidates In the field, was that for the state senatorial nomination. State Senator George M. Miller of Price sought the selection and Representative G. G. Lindstrom of Spring Canyon was his announced opponent. Senator Millers name was presented by W. E. Christensen of Price and that of Representative Lindstrom was advanced by Frank Bonac-- ci of Helper. 'i jJ ar Continued folio ving up of the advantage gained by designation recently of Highway Fifty as the eastern Utah link in the Roosevelt transcontinental motor route, was recommended at the meeting of the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah at their monthly session held at Richfield Saturday. The recently designated route was scheduled for marking late this year and carrying out of that program was cautioned as an important and necessary step. The National Roosevelt Transcontinental highway organization is scheduled to hold its annual meeting in Chicago early in November and it is probable that the southern club group directors will take action toward being represented at that session at its next monthly meeting, that step having been suggested at the Saturday confab. Consideration of the plan for location of a junior college at Price did not come up for discussion at the Saturday meeting, leaders of the southern club group pointing out that their organization had already gone on record favoring location of such a school here and that no additional steps could be taken until the next session of the legislature. ar one-ha- lf. PRICE CAR STOLEN TO USE IN SERIES OF THEFTS SATURDAY Acting in the role of good Samaritans to themselves, thieves lifted the car of Belmont Richards of Price and are believed to have used it for transportation to several points in the district where robberies were carried out Saturday evening, including a visit to Orangeville and Castle Dale, breaks being made into a garage at the former town and a department store at the Emery county seat. Efforts to rob a drug store in the latter community were said to have been foiled by the night patrolman who fired shots to scare the would-b- e thieves away. Shortly after the Emery county visitations, Emils Cabaret, near Helper, was the scene of a holdup, two masked bandits entering the place and held up Emil Pascich, proprietor, and two customers, one being Dave Allison of Helper. The latter was struck on the head by an iron pipe carried by one of the robbers, the other being armed with a revolver. Almost one hundred dollars was the total loot taken from the cabaret and three occupants of the place. The Emery county robberies netted the three thieves a flash light from the garage; several blankets, shoes and cigarettes from the Hunt- ington Bros. Department store. Mr. Richards car was returned to his home before Sunday morning, a bullet hole being in the body.
