Each team placed two men on the first five, the other position going to Roosevelt The second team includes three from Central high of Castle Dale and one each from Carbon and Roosevelt Undoubtedly, the 1933 aggregation is the equal, if not the superior, of any similar quint ever named in the region. Although some brilliant performed in the tournament the five selections distinctly stood out as the best men for their positions. Nephi Gunderson, Carbon scoring ace, was the unanimous choice for one forward position, not only because of his sensational shooting, but also because of his excellent floor work in the three round robin games. Although he was held in check the first night of the meet as far as basket making was concerned, he rustled the ball in a superb, manner, and stood out as the best forward on the floor. His offensive work in the succeeding two games was brilliant to the highest degree. The manner in which he swished the ball through the hoop from long range will long be remembered by the tournament crowds, while his shooting under the basket was the zenith of accuracy. He totaled 51 points in the tournament, an average of 17 per game. Don Branson, Grand long shot artist, was a popular choice for the forward berth opposite Gunderson. The rangy Moab sharp shooter was second to the Carbonlte in scoring, averaging over 11 counters in the three contests. -In addition to being a high class print getter, Branson proved himself to be fast, reliable, a good ball rustler and an accurate passer. Holly Bryner, the choice for the pivot position, was probably the outstanding player of the tournament His consistent floor work in the round robin, as well as during the entire season, stamps him as a truly great defensive man, probably the best this region has produced. He is the de- pendable type of player, who bolsters a dub, not with fleshiness, but with mdiness that it needs, Bryner's ability to be in the right time was little plu . ltof , uncanny. He ehort georing attempts, ed his own team's offensive drive very nicely. Despite the fact that he plays a defensive role, Bryner is an accurate shooter and has materially contributed to Carbons scoring this suit in district this week for a divorce from nk Kearns, to whom she was rted May 7, 1923 at Price. This young man was a bulwark on the defense throughout the tournament, and his great work was largely responsible for the fact that the Grand quint took second place honors while having the lowest scoring total of any team to the round robin. . A cool and calculating player, Andrews was at his best around the backboard, where he brake up scorining forays time after time. He tercepted beautifully, and started the plays down the floor in faultless manner. Fish Wardle of Roosevelt, a fast, vigorous ball rustler, a highly skilled dribbler and a good scorer, wins the fifth place on the mythical team. Wardle's consistently good work was about the only cheerful feature of the tournament for the Roosevelt fans. Opposing forwards were keenly aware of Wardles presence, for the Rough Rider star was on top of the ball continually, and gave his adversaries little chance to get set for a shot. T. SCORING HONORS IN ROUND ROBIN Nephi Gunderson, captain and forward of the Carbon high basketball team, was the leading scorer of the Region 5 round robin tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, according to the official records compiled Monday. Gunderson hit the hoop for 24 field goals and three foul goals for a total of 51 prints, his game average being 17. Gunderson started the firework with a sensational long shot, and Blackie Grecco followed suit immediately, making a beautiful pitch which hardly touched the sides of the hoop. These two boys continued to shell the basket from long range with very successful results, and although the Moab five battled bitterly, their offensive availed little against the brilliant shooting of the Carbon forwards. Moab frequently advanced the ball Into their own territory, but the alert Carbon defensive men gave the Oil Plungers very few good scoring opportunities. After the disastrous first quarter, Grand settled down and succeeded to breaking into the scoring column shortly after the second period started.
