This excerpt from nn article appearing in n Kansas exchange is reproduced for the benefit of every thinking citizen, especially for the business man who is ready to declare that "tho town could not get along without n newspaper," but who is always nnd eternally ready to grumble nt any uiggcstion thnt ho advertise, unless ho can see a hundred dollars directly return to his cash till for every dollar paid the newspaper. Such Individuals Indi-viduals arc urged to read the lines a second or third time: Tho weekly newspaper promotes tho Interests of tho town in which It is published to such nn extent that It becomes Impossible to place an estimate upon its worth. There Is no enterprise that does so much for the corporation or the individual in-dividual citizen. It stands opposed to the town knocker, town kicker, town fanatic nnd town drones. It stands for action ns aiminst nroonirt. tlnntion. II stands for progress as agnlnst stagnation. stag-nation. It Is ever rendy to aid the constructive plans of wise nnd level headed citizens. It is for tho upbuilding of the community. When battles aro to bo fought for town or county a rush is mado to the newspaper office where tho loyal editor is always found ready, frequently without hopo ot reward, but seldom without calumny. Communities frequently lose sight of their real benefactor when they fail to recognize the weekly journal as such. The editor and his paper stand ns bulwarks for tho community good. For theso nnd other reasons, the nowspnper, not only of your town but of your county, should receive your liberal support as it is really the most Important Im-portant business enterprise in your community, notwithstanding tho slurring remarks of perhaps somo few ngitators to the contrary." |
